Offering real life experiences is a goal of ours at J.R. Gerritts Middle School. We encourage our students to become life long learners and develop skills to help them take charge of their own learning and to create their own learning opportunities.
The Computer Applications Department at J.R. Gerritts Middle School is designed to prepare our students for the 21st Century. Students are engaging in technical applications more and more and we strive to make sure our students are ready.
We not only teach the technical abilities, but also the less concrete aspects. We teach our students how to critically think through a task, work in teams collaboratively and how to reach out to the global community using the technology readily available to us.

How Safe Are You?

My Space, Face Book, Instant Messaging, Chat Rooms, Blogs, Personal Websites, etc.

All of these are wonderful communication tools our Digital Natives are using, but do they understand how to use them safely?
By the end of the school year, each and every seventh grader will have had Computer Applications. That means we have a wonderful opportunity to reach each 7th grade student regarding Internet Safety. Ms. Verkuilen and Officer Slotke will be going into each of the eighth grade Health Classes to present Internet Safety to them.

Therefore, all of our students will have gotten the message.... What about the parents???

October 1st at 6:30pm we are hosting an Internet Safety Presentation in the auditorium. I would love to see each parent there!! We will present some interesting facts regarding Internet Safety and what parents can do to help keep our students safe.

If a parent attends this presentation, their child's name will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win an iPod Nano!

Welcome to Blogging!

Welcome Back to JRG!
Are you ready to begin blogging??
What is a blog you ask? A blog is an online log or diary. It gives people an opportunity to respond to statements or issues online. Anyone can access them. All responses are public and students will then comment on those. I have chosen to "moderate" the comments. This means that none will be posted until I have okayed them.
So let's begin!

***Tell me (and the rest of the world) one way you used technology this summer***
